The new San Carlos Intermediate School was designed as the replacement building for the existing Intermediate School located downtown San Carlos. The biggest Challenge was to keep the existing school in session while the new school was under construction. The existing limited space was overcome by the school district acquiring new land across the street extended between them. When construction was complete the existing school was demolished and new play courts where constructed in its place.

Other design parameters consisted of each home room class having a view to the exterior so students would have a constant contact with the exterior environment. Security played an essential role in the circulation of the school with main entry point of contact at the administration area.

Program
The new school accommodates 450 students in the 3rd, 4th and 5th grades. The overall Project consist of 22 classrooms, a computer lab, art room, music room as well as other ammenities such as media center, dinning facility, multipurpose room with stage, full service kitchen, nurses clinic and administration area with offices.
