Program
This project at Mesa Community College was to convert a building once used as a radio station to a classroom type building for the Music and Theater departments. The existing sound proof rooms were originally constructed with an isolated slab, ceiling, soundproof doors and windows. They provided great locations for music related practice, studio and recording rooms. Many existing partition walls were demolished and new walls were built to form new larger classroom spaces. All interior finishes were replaced, including the following: floor, wood floors were added in the music studios; wall, including acoustic finishes as needed; ceiling, lighting and mechanical. The restrooms also received new floor and wall tile and were increased in size. All of the existing wiring was replaced with new. New canopies were designed and installed to identify the new building entrances. Finally, sidewalks were added to improve circulation around the building.
